Dear Reader,
It’s nice to meet you. From all of us at The Epoch Times, we’re excited for you to get a closer look at our work.
You might have heard that our motto is Truth and Tradition, which is the standard that we hold ourselves to in all we do. We aim for our news to be grounded in fact and for our content to reflect the time-honored values given to us by history.
One of the texts that guides me is The Journalist’s Creed, in which Walter Williams affirms the core tenets of our profession and its significance to society.
Williams says that good journalism is rooted in “clear thinking and clear statement” as well as “accuracy and fairness.” He states that a journalist “should write only what he holds in his heart to be true.”
He believes that successful journalism “fears God and honors man,” is “always respectful of its readers but always unafraid,” balances being “profoundly patriotic while sincerely promoting international good will,” and remains “unswayed by the appeal of privilege or the clamor of the mob.”
But his closing line is what always stays with me, where he says that brilliant journalism “is a journalism of humanity, of and for today’s world.”
This is how we think about journalism at The Epoch Times, and we sincerely hope it’s a difference you’ll be able to experience for yourself in our work.
So without further ado, welcome to our reader community. We hope you enjoy your stay. In Truth and Tradition,
Jasper Fakkert
